Queen Maeve, who ruled the province of Connacht in the 1st century A.D., is said to be buried in the mountaintop cairn. There is a signposted trail to the top which offers wonderful views. You can appreciate the exhilarating waves, which surfers particularly enjoy, from the fine sandy beach.
